Dr. Karen McIntyre, KCenter Junior Woman Scholar Award winner Keynotes in Beijing

Congratulations to Dr. Karen McIntyre, Kopenhaver Center Junior Woman Scholar Award winner who was invited to Beijing to deliver a keynote speech at the first conference on constructive journalism in China.

The conference was organized by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the leading social science research institution in the country. The Nov. 9 forum, led by the CASS Institute of Journalism and Communication, was titled: Constructive Journalism: Theory and Practice. McIntyre joined several Chinese and a handful of international scholars and practitioners in talks about the definitions, practice and effects of constructive, or solutions, journalism — a concept that has gained much attention in recent years.

These speeches, as well as research papers on the topic, will be published in a special issue on constructive journalism next month in a top Chinese journal sponsored by CASS. About 100 guests were selected to attend the meeting. Dr. McIntyre gave an additional talk to students and professors at a CASS university campus the following day.
