AEJMC Pre-Convention Workshop Women Faculty Moving Forward

The Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication Pre-Convention Workshop Women Faculty Moving Forward: “Successfully Navigating the Academy” was held in New Orleans on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

Sponsored by the AEJMC Commission on the Status of Women, the Lillian Lodge Kopenhaver Center for the Advancement of Women in Communication at Florida International University, and the AEJMC Council of Affiliates. This eleventh workshop with accomplished academics will help early-career women faculty members move forward in their careers through mentoring, networking, and preparing for tenure and promotion and administration or other leadership positions.

The keynote speaker for the workshop was Tracy Lucht, director, Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication, Iowa State.  Panelists: Margaretha Geertsema-Sligh, Professor of Journalism and Director of Graduate Studies in the College of Communication, Butler University, Indianapolis; Jaime Loke, Associate Professor of Journalism, Texas Christian University; Jeannine Relly, Professor and Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Advancement, University of Arizona; Elanie Steyn, University Of Oklahoma Gaylord School Professor and Associate Dean; and Ingrid Bachmann, Associate Professor in the School of Communications at Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile and director of the Millennium Nucleus on Digital Inequalities and Opportunities, a research project funded by Chile’s National Agency for Research and Development.
