img_76771Jillian is the Associate Editor at South Florida Gay News. She graduated summa cum laude from Florida Atlantic University in 2016 with a bachelor’s in multimedia journalism, after spending the summer studying abroad in Venice, Italy.  While in Venice she took an interest in impacts of sea level rise, storm surge, and mass tourism on the population and infrastructure of the city. With these ideas in mind, she produced a 45-minute audio documentary on Venice as an independent study project prior to graduation.

She placed third in the categories of Best News Coverage, Best LGBT Coverage, and College Journalist of the year in the 2016 Society of Professional Journalists Sunshine State Awards. She received the 2015 Inez-Persson Bailyn scholarship, one of the highest honors from FAU’s College of Arts and Letters.

During her time at FAU, Jillian discovered her knack for news reporting, her ability to lead others, and found that her love for learning also translated into a love for teaching and training while she served as News Editor for the University Press student newspaper, and later as Producer for the university news radio program, South Florida Journal.

While at Broward College she received the 2012 William. E. Greene Study Abroad Scholarship, which she used to spend the Fall semester in Seville, Spain. During her time in Seville she was inspired by the multicultural history — the convergence of Judaism, Christianity and Islam — and fell in love with the mudejar architectural style.

She currently lives in Boca Raton Florida with her fiancé. She hopes to add two kittens to their family soon.
