Dr. Hines has a long career in journalism education. A former high school newspaper adviser, she pioneered a course for high school students in school public relations in 1970, the first to be certified nationally by a state Department of Education. She was assistant dean of the College of Journalism at the University of Maryland and executive director of the Maryland Scholastic Press Association. She is a Certified Journalism Educator (CJE).
Dr. Hines received her Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, master’s degree from the American University and bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
