Department of Landscape Architecture + Environmental and Urban Design

FIU LAEUD is the first and only landscape architecture program in the Americas with a focus on tropical and subtropical regions of the world.

Landscape Architecture prepares students for research and practice while focusing on the analysis, planning, design, and management of the natural and built environment of tropical and subtropical landscapes. Our goal is to educate individuals who can serve and lead the community in the enhancement of the quality of life through the meaningful, equitable, aesthetic, and sustainable design of the physical environment.

DEGREES

The Department of Landscape Architecture + Environmental and Urban Design offers two degrees: a professionally-accredited Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) and a post-professional Master of Arts in Urban Design (MAUD). The MLA admits students as Freshmen, transfers (with an Associates degree), and graduate students.

STUDY ABROAD

The Master of Landscape Architecture design curriculum includes a number of study abroad options. Students may spend a semester at our campus in Genoa, Italy, and may attend our two-week study travel program at the Bauhaus in Dessau, Germany. Our design studios frequently include a travel component, and in recent years students have traveled to Panama, the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, and New Mexico.

FACILITIES

The Paul L. Cejas School of Architecture Building is a state-of-the-art facility designed by renowned architect Bernard Tschumi specifically to meet the needs of the School of Architecture. Students work at dedicated desks in the spacious design studios, conduct design reviews in the critique rooms, build models and prototypes in the digital fabrication labs (which include state-of-the-art robotic arms and 3D printers), and exhibit their work in the gallery.
