TOM: Florida International University
Announcing the TOM: Florida International University Community
On February 3, 2020, FIU was the first university in the State University System of Florida to enter into a signed licensing agreement with Tel Aviv-based Tikkun Olam Makers (TOM Global) to form the new TOM: FIU Community.
What is Tikkun Olam?
The Hebrew phrase Tikkun Olam means to repair the world and is the underlying principle of the TOM Global movement and the TOM: FIU Community.
What is TOM (Tikkun Olam Makers) Global?
TOM is a global venture inspired by a bold vision that seeks to improve the lives of 250,000,000 people through making. Its objective is to create and disseminate affordable physical and technological solutions to neglected challenges faced by people living with disabilities, the elderly and the poor. The TOM Global vision is to create a world in which technology and innovation allow every person access to affordable solutions for his, her or their needs.
What is the TOM: Florida International University Community?
The TOM: FIU Community is a university-based collaborative initiative that builds upon the foundations of FIU’s CARTA Innovation Lab at the Miami Beach Urban Studios and reaches out to include any interested student or member of the university community to address the unmet physical needs of individuals in and around our local region. Using 21st-century technologies, we expect these solutions to have significant impact on research and innovation at FIU and support the goal of FIU to achieve recognition for FIU as a Top-50 Public University.
