Benjamin de la Peña, Knight Foundation’s Director of Community and National Strategy, explores the implications of rapidly changing transportation technology on the built environment:
“The self-driving car is already here and soon it will take-over our cities. Experts estimate that by 2035, autonomous vehicles will account for 75% of all light-duty vehicle sales, nearly 100 million units annually. Not only will it change the way we travel (and move goods) it will also shift us from ownership to “usership.” What does that mean for the way we build cities? And what are we going to do with all that space we’ve devoted to cars?”
