Join us for an insightful talk with Minneapolis-based artists Jennifer Newsom-Carruthers and Tom Carruthers! Their creative practice, Dream the Combine, explores the conceptual overlaps in art, architecture and cultural theory through structures that disrupt assumed dichotomies and manipulate the boundary between real and illusory space.

Their work has been featured in The New York Times, Huffington Post, Vancouver Sun, FoxNews, CTV, Metropolis Magazine, Modern Midwest, The Architects Newspaper, and Africana: The Encyclopedia of the African and African-American Experience. They are winners of the 2018 MoMA PS1 Young Architects Program.

The Miami Beach Urban Studios’ 2019 Art Talk series seeks to connect a diverse pool of artists and art educators to the evermore vibrant and dynamic Miami Beach community. A hidden gem in the local art scene, this series provides attendants with an opportunity to witness the daily cultural collision taking place at the FIU Miami Beach Urban Studios (MBUS), as the artistic intellects of the audience and artist seamlessly merge within its walls. Featured speakers put forth their work as audiences becomes acquainted with the beautiful MBUS scenery, and the concept of “art talk” becomes second nature.
