The work of Keith Allyn Spencer is like a cartoon. Always searching for new approaches and relationships to material, Keith likes to undermine any obvious technical abilities and processes. He prefers painting as a utility, as entertainment, as therapy, protest, prank, and decoration, even painting as non-painting. Allyn’s work tends to tap into his family dynamic, at times strangely benefiting them. For Spencer, painting is a catalyst for a broader practice of probing and toying with networks.

KEITH ALLyN SPENCER was born and raised in the Chihuahuan desert of West Texas. An emphasis with the middle letter of his name helps diminish the perpetual mix-ups with similar named persons. Currently, Kevin resides with his family in the United States of America. He is a tenure-track art professor at Denison University navigating towards long-term job security, cul-de-sacs, and organic groceries. He received his MFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Fine Arts (2011) and a BFA from UTEP.edu (2003). Recent group exhibitions consist of Central Park Gallery (Los Angeles), Present Company (NYC), New Galerie at Yves Klein Archives (Paris), and BigMedium (Austin). Recent solo shows include Jelato Love (Spain), Fringe Projects (Miami), Pay Fauxn (NYC), Ditch Projects (Oregon), The Composing Rooms (Berlin), Welcome Screen (London), OFG.XXX (Dallas), Target (Indiana), and Domino’s Pizza (Rhode Island).
