An evening of music from the U.S. and Mexico will feature the Amernet String Quartet, artists-in-residence at FIU, performing works by prizewinning guest composer Javier Alvarez and FIU composer-in-residence Orlando Jacinto Garcia. Virtuoso guitarist Jaime Marquez and FIU faculty clarinetist Jesse Gilday will join the quartet as soloists, while Amernet cellist Jason Calloway will also be showcased.
The New Music Miami Festival has championed and presented cutting-edge contemporary classical music over its 24 years of existence, including music for soloists, chamber ensembles, and music with video and electronics.
Organized by the FIU School of Music and presented with the support of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners, the City of Miami Beach, FIU Miami Beach Urban Studios, and the Kimberly Green Latin American and the Caribbean Center at FIU. The Betsy Hotel is the official host hotel for the festival.
