PUBLIC: Out of Context Exhibition by Chris Friday2019-06-05T16:24:27-04:00
Out of Context Exhibition by Chris Friday.

Chris Friday is a visual artist based in Goulds, Florida.  She graduated with a BFA from New World school of the Arts and is currently an MFA Candidate at Florida International University and a Ratcliffe Art +Design Incubator fellow.

Incorporating a chalk and blackboard aesthetic, which plays on the idea of learning and being taught, Friday creates large murals with fixed and detachable elements that analyze popular culture and mass media for the reoccurring messages presented to the public. Operating with the belief that education is not limited to a classroom, Friday creates “learning environments”, reflecting information that has undergone a context change, back at the viewer. In this way, Friday investigates themes of Identity, Race, Gender, Sexuality and the effects of popular culture on the perceptions of brown bodies. Identifying problematic perspectives and their origins, questioning their legitimacy, and offering possible solutions is priority in her work.
