Where did you intern? What did you do there? The Broward Center for the Performing Arts. As the programming intern, I was responsible for artist research in sale statistics for ticket pricing, fan following, venue sizes, etc. I helped in preparing budgets and offer letters to send to artist management companies. I also assisted in the revising of artist contracts for performance bookings. I worked on managing availability in all venues of the Broward Center for booking availability.

How did you get your internship? I got my internship by calling to inquire further about it, applying, then interviewing for it.

What advice do you have for those beginning the internship process? I advise to get out of their comfort zones and do something they haven’t done in school regularly because it becomes an extra skill learned. I also advise to do an internship outside of school because it gives you the chance to increase the number of more professional connections made.

What projects did you work on? Artist research on statistics, artist offer letters and budgets, artist contract reviews.

How did your internship connect back to your coursework? It connected back to my music business classes where we reviewed artist contracts, settlements, bookings, etc.

What was the coolest thing about your internship or that happened during your internship? The coolest thing about my internship was attending free shows, being able to see behind-the-scenes in production load-ins and outs, as well as participate in staff events. I also won a scholarship through my internship and that was great!

What did you like most about your experience? What I liked most about the experience was applying things I learned about in class to real life scenarios, I learned even more than what I learned in class, and made great professional connections to last a lifetime!

What did you learn about yourself? I learned that I can work in an office, cubicle setting and at my own pace with getting projects done in a timely matter. I learned that I was reliable towards artist research and booking, and was part of that process.

How did the position increase your professional confidence? The position increased my professional confidence because it placed me in a work environment I’ve never experienced before and was
able to excel in it. The position made me feel confident in the ability to do research, present and defend it, and also be entrusted by staff when I did so, it felt great.

How did you expand your professional network? I expanded my professional network by the connections made in several departments of the Broward Center due to my work ethic and reliability when it came to getting things done and delivered.

How did it help you prove yourself in the “real-world?” It’s helped me prove myself in the “real world” because it’s an additional experience I can talk about and more skills I’ve learned that I
can provide in any future related workplace. I have also made more connections that would vouch for me because of my time there and
the work I did.
