NPR’s Summer 2021 Internship Program will be fully remote.
Program Duration: June 1 – August 20, 2021
This internship will support Morning Edition, the most listened-to news radio program in the country.
Morning Edition takes listeners around the country and the world with two hours of multi-faceted stories and commentaries that inform, challenge, and occasionally amuse.
Our intern assists the show’s producers, editors, and hosts, by pitching stories, helping to book guests, and researching the issues behind the stories we cover. This fall there will be a special focus on helping with Morning Edition’s 2020 presidential election coverage using audio production and other journalism skills.
INTERN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducts research for daily stories and long-term projects
- Pitches story ideas at the daily editorial meeting
- Helps book interviews
- Logs recordings of interviews and events
- Assists in getting the program on the air, which includes performing routine administrative tasks
WHO CAN APPLY?
- LOCATION: Must be planning to work from the United States and authorized to work in the United States throughout the Summer 2021 internship dates.
- EDUCATION: Must be a current student in an accredited degree program or a recent graduate of no more than 12 months from the month of the start of the internship.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Newsroom experience preferred
- Audio production experience preferred
- Digital media skills, including proficiency in social media, preferred
- Knowledge of NPR programming required
