Program Duration: October 4, 2021 – April 15, 2022

INTERN WILL LEARN AND BE EXPOSED TO:

For half of the internship, you’ll be with the Morning Edition team and for the other half of the time, you’ll be with the Content Operations team. At Morning Edition, the intern will focus on pitching ideas, contributing to news and feature content creation, and honing audio production skills. At Content Operations, they will focus on audio production and technical skills, assisting with studio and field production operations. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts research for daily stories and long-term projects
  • Pitches story ideas at Morning Edition’s editorial meeting
  • Helps book interviews
  • Logs recordings of interviews and events
  • Assists in getting Morning Edition on the air, which includes performing routine administrative tasks
  • Books studios for NPR programs, hosts and correspondents, and assists with in-studio IP connectivity, eg Comrex, Skype, Zoom, etc.
  • Sets up guests in the production studios
  • Sets up audio recordings of hearings and press conferences
  • Assists with equipping and deploying staff for field assignments
  • Assists with coordinating live events and breaking news coverage

WHO CAN APPLY?

  • LOCATION: This internship will be onsite at our Washington, DC headquarters. But please note that there could be a need to pivot this internship to fully remote if pandemic related developments warrant that change. 
  • EDUCATION: Must be a current student in an accredited degree program or a recent graduate of no more than 12 months from the month of the start of the internship. 

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Experience with audio content production
  • Newsroom experience 

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Familiarity with digital media editing systems
  • Knowledgeable in Content Management Systems
  • Comfortable with audio, video, broadcast and podcast technologies 
  • Strong organizational and problem solving skills
  • Digital media skills, including proficiency in social media 
  • Knowledge of NPR programming required 

SCHEDULE

  • 40 hours per week. The intern will mostly work 9am-6pm, with some weeks shifting to earlier or later hours.
