Program Duration: October 4, 2021 to April 15, 2022
We need an intern who can create content that supports this audience. This will include writing fun, instructive articles; interviewing and collaborating with NPR journalists; and adapting existing training materials into compelling site posts. Please note: You will not be reporting or writing stories for npr.org.
The team’s experienced editors will help you improve your writing and teach you about editing for digital, writing headlines, optimizing for search, creating basic visuals, and other topics. Depending on your interests, you can also learn about web design and development, audio production, and more.
INTERN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create posts for training.npr.org. These will be based on the intern’s original reporting, existing training materials, or both.
- Expand the site’s main topic areas: digital and audio and journalism, along with accuracy, DEI, ethics, visuals and audience.
- Depending on the intern’s skills, tasks may also include creating videos, animations and/or illustrations for the site as well.
- Assist with internal and external team communications, and other duties as assigned.
WHO CAN APPLY?
- LOCATION: This internship will be fully remote. Must be planning to work from the United States throughout the fall/winter 2021 internship dates.
- EDUCATION: Must be a current student in an accredited degree program or a recent graduate of no more than 12 months from the month of the start of the internship.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Writing effectively and, when appropriate, entertainingly
- Reporting, interviewing and fact-checking
- Generating creative coverage ideas
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Experience writing for a media outlet (student media is fine)
- Basic web production
- Basic graphic design
- Use of AP style
- Enthusiasm for public media and/or training
SCHEDULE
- 40 hours per week during regular business hours on weekdays, with some flexibility
