Program Duration: October 4, 2021 – April 15, 2022
INTERN WILL LEARN AND BE EXPOSED TO: This internship is an opportunity to learn more about the world of photo editing. Our goal isn’t to make you into a photo editor; we view this internship as a chance for you to understand what it is like to be an editor and improve your visual literacy, which can help you become a better photographer.
INTERN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Editing staff, freelance and wire photos – You’ll be working closely with the Visuals Team’s photo editors on fast-paced deadlines – we’re talking anywhere from 15 minutes to publication, to short-term projects that are a week out. You’ll dig into news coverage and photo research, learning how to communicate about what makes a good image across a range of news topics, including international, national, technology, arts and more.
- Post-production of photos for the website
- Researching and pitching original story ideas
- Learning to assign photographers and illustrators
- Interns could be called on to create Instagram Stories, videos, photo essays, picture show stories or anything in-between.
WHO CAN APPLY?
- LOCATION: This internship has the flexibility to be onsite at our Washington, D.C. office, fully remote, and/or a hybrid version of the two based on the intern’s preference.
- EDUCATION: Must be a current student in an accredited degree program or a recent graduate of no more than 12 months from the month of the start of the internship.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Excellent writing, researching and editing skills
- Ability to work quickly, accurately and under deadline
- Good news judgement and visual literacy
- Flexibility and creativity needed
- Strong photography skills
- Good communication skills
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Video and audio skills a plus
- Organizational skills
SCHEDULE
- Monday – Friday 9am to 6pm (EST)
- 40 hours a week (could be some breaking news work on nights or weekends)
