Program Duration: May 31, 2022 – August 19, 2022

INTERN WILL LEARN AND BE EXPOSED TO: 

Throughline is our hit weekly history podcast and radio show that journeys into the past to better understand the present. History is often missing from our national discourse. The show aims to change that by exploring the history of current events through creative, immersive storytelling that uses cinematic production. Throughline brings the past to life in a fun, energetic way and reintroduces history to a new audience. 

As an intern, you will be part of a small, highly collaborative team. You will help conceive, shape and execute stories for the Throughline podcast as well as related broadcast and digital elements. You love history and find yourself going down wormholes to find untold stories. You hear stories in the news and wonder what is the backstory of a particular issue. If you equally nerd out on history and narrative storytelling, then this is the job for you.

INTERN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Pitch great stories
  • Provide feedback at edits
  • Write copy for npr.org for each episode
  • Monitor Throughline’s inbox and social media accounts for feedback from listeners and share with team – respond to listener emails, follow up on their story ideas
  • Do research into your ideas, and ours
  • Books guests and arranges studios
  • Assist with episode fact-checking

WHO CAN APPLY?

  • LOCATION: This internship will be fully remote. Must be planning to work from the United States throughout the summer 2022 internship dates. 
  • EDUCATION: Must be a current student in an accredited degree program or a recent graduate of no more than 12 months from the month of the start of the internship. 

REQUIRED SKILLS 

  • Must have excellent research and written/verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of or at least interest in history
  • Ability to work independently, quickly and accurately, while under deadline pressure
  • Demonstrated interest in news and creative storytelling

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Some experience in audio editing software
  • A love for collaboration
  • Multi-lingual 

SCHEDULE

  • We generally work M-F, 10amET-7pmET, and can be flexible within that general time frame. 

This internship is full-time, so 40 hours/week
