Program Duration: May 31, 2022 – August 19, 2022

You should apply for the NPR National Desk Internship if you want nothing more than to be a reporter in public media. This is an internship for those who want to devote their lives to excellent public media journalism. It’s also an internship that’s quite a lot of fun. The National Desk is a great place to work because of excellent colleagues and exciting news coverage opportunities.

INTERN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assisting NPR staff reporters, editors, producers, hosts, and freelancers in the creation of news programming.
  • Learning NPR News’s radio journalism ethical standards and practices.
  • Developing radio reporting and producing skills that will prepare the intern for careers at NPR member stations and at NPR itself.

WHO CAN APPLY?

  • LOCATION: This internship will be fully remote. Must be planning to work from the United States throughout the summer 2022 internship dates. 
  • EDUCATION: Must be a current student in an accredited degree program or a recent graduate of no more than 12 months from the month of the start of the internship. 

REQUIRED SKILLS 

  • Keen interest in journalism
  • Specific interest in public media
  • Some journalism experience (such as an internship at a local public radio station or job at a college radio station)

SCHEDULE:

  • This position is remote. The typical workday is Monday through Friday, 9am to 6pm ET but there is some flexibility for intern candidates based in other time zones.
