Summary:
The job of the Choral teacher is to design, implement and assess lessons to increase student achievement in the area of general music. This teacher must maintain a positive classroom environment. This teacher shall enforce State rules and regulations and District polices and procedures to ensure the effective implementation of the educational program.
Responsibilities and Duties:
This position entails teaching chorus. The successful candidate will plan concerts and other school wide events during the day and evening throughout the year for all three grades. Chorus is a Related Arts class currently offered in 45-minute periods so that each grade level has one chorus class per day all year long. Related Arts teachers work together in Professional Learning Communities to plan and prepare engaging lessons for students.
The successful candidate will be able to include the following among important professional qualities needed for this position:
- The ability to work on a team with other teachers.
- The knowledge and experience to teach chorus to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.
- The ability to engage students in the classroom using current pedagogy (experience with LFS is preferred).
- The ability to manage finances/purchases for chorus with the help of the main office secretary.
- The ability to plan concerts and events to showcase students’ talents.
- Prepares and maintains accurate and complete records as required by law and district policy.
- Uses a grading system which is consistent, fair and supportable.
- Maintains professional confidentiality concerning individual student data and achievement.
- Communicates to students and parents/guardians the level of student achievement and progress toward established classroom, district and state standards.
- Works constructively with colleagues and others for the purpose of improving the quality of a student’s behavior and academic success.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the District and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning environment. Notified and involves parents/guardians regarding a student behavior as outlined in school and District policies.
- Takes all reasonable precautions to provide a safe, secure learning environment. Other duties as assigned by each building principal.
- Participates in various meetings (i.e., staff, team, parent conferences, in-service training, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information or sharing expertise.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
