As an integral member of the Opera Company’s administrative team and works side by side with staff producing, promoting, and administering the summer festival and its Young Artist Program. 1-3 years of combined arts/performing arts/entertainment industry education/experience. About Your Work Day
Daily Operations
- Report to the Managing Director of Chautauqua Opera for all scheduled activities
- Provide administrative assistance and serve as an administrative liaison to interworking departments, such as Production, Costumes, Wigs & Makeup, Music, and Administration. Act as a resource for all company members on departmental as well as organization policies/procedures.
- As a first point of contact for internal company management regarding transportation, housing, and communications onsite at the Chautauqua Institution.
- Use professional communication skills to answer a high volume of phone calls, answer widely variable questions, respond in a timely manner to all inquiries and relay complete messages/information as required. Author routine email correspondence and complete daily mail distribution. Answer any questions company members might have about the company.
- Responsible for communicating all issues to the Managing Director and responding to company issues in a timely manner.
- Provide event support for all events; mainstage and ancillary (i.e., opera invasions, song recitals, guild events, staff parties, etc.).
Housing, Travel & Special Events
- At Connolly Residence Hall act as first point of contact. The Company Manager will work directly with Connolly Hall and assist in upholding dorm policy for the duration of the summer season. Oversee coordination of office staff in maintaining the residential facility. Promptly replace demagnetized/lost key cards to residents who are locked out of their rooms. Communicate issues and policy violations to the Managing Director.
- Act as COVID Safety Contact for Connolly Residence Hall
- Maintain car/bike rental records.
- Assign parking spots for all driving company members at the Jane A. Gross Opera Center including Guest Artists, Young Artists, Company Staff and guests.
- Communicate all necessary work orders to the Managing Director.
- Assist with staff housing needs. In conjunction with the Managing Director, use established procedures to distribute complimentary season gate passes and parking permits for seasonal staff/guests.
About Your Schedule
Chautauqua Institution and Chautauqua Hotel Company offer flexible schedules, full and part-time, for seasonal employment during summer operations starting annually each June and concluding in August. Seasonal employment may be available earlier (pre-season) and beyond season (post-season) based on business needs and candidate availability. Schedules typically include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as a requirement.
While you will confirm your final schedule with management at the time of an interview and offer of employment, you should generally anticipate the following schedule options for this position:
The work schedule requires a full-time commitment with an average of 40-hours/week with flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required and a willingness to flex up in schedule based on business needs.
About Your Compensation
Compensation for this position starts at $14.00/Hour and, with demonstrated experience and qualifications, candidates may earn up to $17.00/Hour. Chautauqua Opera Company & Conservatory provides a round-trip travel stipend.
About Living on the Grounds
Chautauqua Institution may provide limited housing options on our grounds or assist you with locating nearby housing arrangements for select opportunities based on business needs. Housing is not an option for many positions and may be of a cost to you. If the section below is incomplete, candidates should assume that this is no housing associated with this position.
This position offers employer-provided housing and parking. Housing includes a private bedroom and shared living space; COVID restrictions and safety precautions in place. Residency starts in early June and ends on mid-to-late August.
