General Description: Niagara County Community College is seeking dedicated, motivated individuals for a full-time, tenure-track Theatre Arts instructor to provide leadership, engagement, and discipline expertise in continuing to move the program forward in innovative ways, beginning in the 2023-2024 academic year. As a full-time faculty member at Niagara County Community College, successful candidates will demonstrate commitment to student success through teaching and learning excellence as well as artistic direction for the program’s productions.

The successful candidate for this position will have relevant professional experience in theater and focused academic study necessary to provide instruction in a full range of courses including, but not limited to THA 100 Exploring the Arts, THA 101 Acting for Non-Majors, THA 102 Theatre Arts Success Seminar, THA 105 Acting I, THA 106 Acting II, THA 113 History of the Theatre, THA 117 An Introduction to Theatre, THA 126 Stage Management, THA 129/130/231/232 Drama Production I-IV, THA 134 Voice and Diction, THA 138 Movement for the Actor, THA 200 Theatre Arts Capstone Course, THA 208 Script Analysis, and THA 211 Acting for Animation.

Responsibilities include teaching 18 contact hours of lab and/or lecture per semester or 15 credits of lecture only, student advisement, curriculum and course development, recruitment, play production, preparation for a spring musical, and participation in college and departmental activities. The person selected may be appointed as the Program Coordinator for Theatre Arts and may direct a production each year. Teaching load assignments will be made based on the selected candidate’s experience, background, and institutional need. A summer stipend is a possibility to continue the program rebuilding process. The successful candidate will only be required to work 162 days per academic year (August – May) and will be provided with a winter break from mid-December to early January, and a Spring Break for one week in mid-March.

In addition to the base salary, there are avenues to increase the salary by teaching overload, teaching summer courses, doing special assignments etc. There is a tenure track pathway for promotion to higher level salaries of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor.

  • Contribute meaningfully and regularly to departmental/divisional meetings, taskforces, and activities
  • Participate in college and discipline-specific professional activities
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • MFA Degree in theatre-related area or related degree
  • Three years’ experience teaching theatre courses in a college setting
  • Professional experience in theatre productions

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Three years of teaching experience in the following disciplines: Acting, Script Analysis, Introduction to Theatre, Theatre History, Technical Theatre Production, Stage Management
  • Current and ongoing experience as a professional theatre practitioner (e.g., actor, director, designer, stage manager, technical director);
  • Experience as director and/or producer of collegiate-level theatre productions;
  • Experience with administrative functions such as budgeting, purchasing, program recruitment, program and course development, collaborative production of musicals including dancers and musicians;
  • Experience with community education and outreach
  • Experience with grant writing
  • Experience and qualifications to teach in related areas of written and/or oral communication should teaching load issues arise
