Internship – Television, Signature Dish

Part or Full time, non-exempt

Summer (May 15, 2023 – August 18, 2023)

Reports to: Associate Producer

Location: Hybrid

 

Description of Intern Work Responsibilities/Projects:

 

The intern works within WETA’s Local Projects team to develop television and media for WETA.

With guidance from Local Projects staff, the Intern will generate social media content and assist with research and production of the show. They will help produce a 12-episode season of dining television show Signature Dish. This includes scouting, on location shoots, pre- and post-production, and editing.

 

Create custom content, memes, and other graphics optimized for specific platforms for the show. Participate in weekly meetings with the larger Local Projects Team.

 

 

 Learning Objectives:

  • Develop a greater understanding of local media, broadcast, and television.
  • Develop increased familiarity and confidence with using various social media platforms, such as Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, in a professional capacity.
  • Develop research and production skills.
  • Learn how to produce a television show about food and dining.
  • Work as part of a cross functional team that interacts with every other unit in the org to meet diverse business goals.
  • Become familiar with the world of public media.

 

Specific Skills Required:

  • Creative thinker who is comfortable pitching in and voicing their ideas.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to think on their feet.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Interest in media and broadcasting as well as good food!

           

Preferred Major: 

  • Film, Communications, Journalism, Marketing or Digital Media.

 

LOCATION

 

WETA and NewsHour Productions are Washington, DC established media and news organizations. We are a largely local workforce based out of the Campbell Place office in Arlington, VA. WETA and NewsHour Productions value employee flexibility when possible. Most positions based in our Arlington, VA office will be onsite or hybrid, depending upon the role.
