The Department of Music in the College of Arts and Sciences at Case Western Reserve seeks applications for a full-time Lecturer in Music Education (String Education Focus) for the 2023-24 academic year.
Responsibilities: Duties will include teaching undergraduate courses in music education, including string education; graduate courses in music education; and directing the Camerata Chamber Orchestra. The normal teaching load is 5 courses/year (2 one semester, 3 one semester). In addition to the teaching responsibilities, there is a substantial department service role that includes managing an ensemble, mentoring string music education students, recruiting for the orchestra and the music education program, and interfacing with local schools through guest clinics, observations, and the like. Initial appointment is for one year, and may be renewed for up to two additional one-year periods. Rank: Lecturer, non-tenure-track.
Requirements: Applicants must have at minimum A.B.D. status in a doctoral program in Music Education, demonstrated experience in orchestral conducting, a minimum of three years documented successful public school teaching experience, and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching. Preferred qualifications include a background in string pedagogy, college teaching experience, music technology, and receipt of doctorate by the date of appointment.
After initial review, applicants may be requested to submit a video sample of recent teaching, a transcript of highest degree received, or both.
