Internship – Graphic Design

Part-time, non-exempt

Compensation: $15.00 per hour

Fall (September 11, 2023 – December 19, 2023)

Reports to: Senior Creative Director

Location: Hybrid, Arlington VA

 

Description of Intern Work Responsibilities/Projects:

  • Work closely with a strong public relations team to learn about media relations, promotions, events, and branding.
  • Design print and digital materials (postcards, brochures, web banners, social media graphics, etc.) to market premieres or new seasons of WETA programming and films
  • Participate in the development and production of our corporate annual report.
  • Organize and maintain library of digital brand assets, such as logos and photography.
  • Edit and color correct photography.
  • Assist in the creation of corporate brand guidelines.

 

 

 Learning Objectives:

  • In this role, you will assist in the production of key art and marketing materials for our portfolio of television and radio programming and company events and initiatives.
  • Gain experience working with and presenting to clients. 
  • Learning the ins and outs of a non-profit, media company.

 

 

Specific Skills Required:

  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Emphasis on Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign)
  • Knowledge of fundamentals of graphic design (Typography, layout, color, and print production techniques)
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work independently or collaborate with a team or present work to a client.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects at one time with varying deadlines.
  • Working knowledge or interest in television and film production, public media, or non-profit organizations is encouraged.
  • Animation and video editing skills are a plus, but not required.         

 

Preferred Major: 

  • Graphic Design or Visual Communications.

LOCATION

 

WETA and NewsHour Productions are Washington, DC established media and news organizations. We are a largely local workforce based out of the Campbell Place office in Arlington, VA. WETA and NewsHour Productions value employee flexibility when possible. Most positions based in our Arlington, VA office will be onsite or hybrid, depending upon the role.
