PURPOSE
Coordinates and/or conducts with the assistance of an instructional assistant all regular classroom activities as designated by the school district in both English and a second language. Fosters respect, understanding, and pride in individual, linguistic and cultural differences.

Assigned Responsibilities
- Develops the limited English proficient student’s basic readiness and reading skills in his/her native language. (Oral communication, visual and auditory discrimination, fine and gross motor skill development, word analysis, sight word vocabulary, etc.)
- Develops the limited English proficient student’s receptive and expressive oral language skills in his/her second language (English).
- Develops the student’s basic mathematics concepts in his/her native language.
- Develops the student’s knowledge of basic science concepts in his/her native language.
- Develops the student’s skills in Physical Education (P.E.) through activities conducted in both languages.
- Develops the student’s skills and appreciation in the area of art through activities conducted in both languages.
- Develops the student’s skills and appreciation in the area of music through activities conducted in both languages.
- Develops the student’s positive self-concept and social attitude through guidance activities conducted in both languages.
- Develops the student’s awareness, understanding, and appreciation of his/her own culture.
- Develops the student’s awareness, understanding, and appreciation of the second culture.
- Participates in Bilingual-Multicultural inservice training programs.
- Participates in the selection, development, and evaluation of Bilingual-Multicultural materials.
- Plans with the resource specialist in order to achieve specific instructional objectives of individual children.
- Works closely and assists in training of bilingual instructional assistant to implement the goals of a quality program.
- Works closely with parents to keep them informed of the progress of the child and the program.
- Administers evaluation instruments, analyses, and reports data in cooperation with the curriculum and resource specialists.
- Assumes other duties as assigned by building principal.
Additional Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
- Oregon Elementary Teaching Certificate valid for assignment.
- Native proficiency in English and the second instructional language.
- Demonstrated ability to teach in English and in a second language.
- Training or experience in teaching English as a Second Language.
- Ability to teach in a multicultural setting, implementing multicultural educational practices in the curriculum.
- Ability to manage use of instructional aide(s) and community resources in the classroom setting.
Experience in working with and ability to relate positively to children from diverse cultural, linguistic, and economic backgrounds

Salary is prorated based on FTE: $45,478 – $89,512(Pro-rated differential based on FTE up to $2,329 – subject to change) (Salary is based on the 2022-23 schedule and is subject to change)
