Description

The Day Camp Counselor provides direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal day camp. Counselors are cause-driven, dynamic members of the YMCA summer team who plan and execute camp programs and assist in creating a safe, active, and fun environment. 

Seasonal: Full Time and Part Time Hours (25-40 hours/week). Training begins the week of May 22. Camp ends no later than August 18. Exact dates vary by location.

Requirements

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Must be at least 16 years old
  • Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, STEAM activities
  • Previous experience working with school-age children, preferably in a day camp or childcare setting.
  • Ability to foster a collaborative team approach to solving challenging situations.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • American Red Cross CPR, First Aid, AED, O2 certifications, and YMCA Child Abuse Prevention training must be completed to start of summer day camp program.
  • ODJFS Orientation to Day Camp training and ODJFS Child Abuse Prevention training must be completed within 30 days of the hire date.

 

Summary

The Day Camp Leader will serve as a dynamic member of the YMCA team by serving our communities in multiple ways; working with a team to create an environment and culture that embodies the Y’s mission of strengthening spirit, mind, and body.  The Day Camp Leader provides direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal day camp and assists the Site Director in promoting a safe, consistent, and stimulating environment at the assigned day camp site by performing the following duties.
