The performance of Handel’s Messiah in December has been an annual or biennial tradition at the Herbert and Nicole Wertheim School of Music & Performing Arts for 20+ years. The 2018 performance introduces a new addition to that tradition by presenting a Messiah Sing with the Civic Chorale of Greater Miami.

This Messiah Sing will feature a professional chamber orchestra comprised of FIU faculty, graduate students and alumni as well as choir of 33 singers on stage comprised of the FIU Concert Choir and alumni, the precise number of singers for which Handel composed. That group will perform the arias and the lesser-known, more challenging choruses. The audience will include 150 singers from FIU and Civic Chorale who will sing the most famous choruses with the audience. Attendees will have the unique experience of hearing both the detailed, nuanced performance of Handel’s solo and choral works and at the same time be enveloped by the most majestic choruses as part of the choir.
