Dr. Kathleen Wilson, Ed.D.

Former Vice Provost for Faculty Leadership and Success at FIU

 

Kathleen Wilson holds a B.M. in Music Education and an M.M. in Musicology from the University of Arizona, and an Ed.M. and Ed.D. in Vocal Pedagogy/Music Education from Teachers College, Columbia University.

At Florida International University, Dr. Wilson served with distinction as Professor of Voice and Vice Provost for Faculty Leadership and Success. A recognized leader in vocal pedagogy and Latin American art song, she continues to perform as a soloist and present master classes and workshops across the U.S. and Latin America, most recently in Peru, Mexico, Colombia, Australia, and Sweden.

Her publications include Sonidos Cubanos, a CD recording by the New Music Ensemble NODUS (Innova label); Elán: Vocal and Instrumental Music by Composers from Mexico and the U.S. (North/South Consonance label); and The Art Song in Latin America: Selected Works by 20th-Century Composers (Pendragon Press). Her scholarly articles appear in The NATS Journal, including “The Spanish Zarzuela as Resource Material for College Opera Programs” and “Breath Support Directives Used by Singing Teachers: A Delphi Study.” She also contributed the entry on Venezuelan song to Guide to Research in the Latin American Repertoire (Indiana University Press).

Her honors include two grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Voice Foundation’s Van L. Lawrence Fellowship for excellence in the teaching of singing and dedication to voice science, and a Teaching Excellence Award from the University of New Hampshire. Dr. Wilson has served as a U.S. Arts America Visiting Professor to Colombia, a Fulbright Senior Scholar to Venezuela, and Dean of the Levine School of Music in Washington, D.C.

She currently teaches private voice and serves as Vice President for Education of the Santa Fe Opera Guild.
