Linda Lathroum obtained her Doctorate in Philosophy in Music Education with an emphasis in Music Therapy from the University of Miami. She received her Master’s in Special Education from the University of Puerto Rico and holds a double bachelor’s in music education and music therapy from Florida State University.
Dr. Lathroum has been a Board-Certified Music Therapist and a certified music educator for over 20 years.
Dr. Lathroum’s expertise in Neurologic Music Therapy enhances her work as a music therapist with various populations including people with Autism, Parkinson’s Disease, Dementia, Stroke, Aphasia, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Hospice and Palliative Care, among others.
As a specialist in early childhood music and movement, currently serving Broward County Public Schools, one of her research interests is the use of music interventions to promote early childhood literacy. Her dissertation is titled, “The Role of Music Perception in Predicting Phonological Awareness in Five- and Six-Year-Old Children.”
She has served as an adjunct professor at Florida International University, University of Miami, and Barry University. She has collaborated with Nova Southeastern University and Virtual Connections, an online music and language stimulation program for patients with aphasia.
She has earned certifications in mind-body medicine, further strengthening her practice. A certified mindfulness instructor through the Center for Mind-Body Medicine, she has worked in the field of mental health as a creative arts therapist for Charlie Health.
Dr. Lathroum has a special passion for intergenerational music therapy groups where children and elderly both benefit from music interventions to promote social interactions, engagement, and wellness.
Her life purpose is to change lives, one note at a time.
