Message to Students

Dear Music Students,

Welcome back to another exhilarating semester at the FIU Wertheim School of Music & Performing Arts, also lovingly known as ‘The Wertheim!”

I hope you had a restful and invigorating break, ready to dive into a semester of musical exploration and personal growth. As the Director of The Wertheim School of Music, I am absolutely thrilled to be part of this talented community and witness the remarkable passion and dedication each of you brings to our musical family. Our faculty and staff have been working tirelessly to curate an enriching curriculum, engaging performances, and countless opportunities for collaboration and artistic expression.

I invite you to immerse yourself in the pages of our magazine, Crescendo (Spring 2025), which captures the essence of our growth and achievements as an institution over the past year. Let’s harness the momentum and carry it forward into the new year.

Success in music school is a blend of preparation, curiosity, and perseverance. Be proactive with your time. Seek feedback. Show up early to rehearsals and classes, ready to engage. Support your fellow musicians. Commit to developing not just your technique, but your musical voice, your professionalism, and your character.

We are here to guide and support you every step of the way. This is your time to shine.

Sincerely,

Karen S. Veloz, Ph.D.
