A Degree in Music Technology
The School of Music is not accepting applications for the B.M., M.M. or Certificate in Music Technology for Spring, Sumer, and Fall 2026. We invite students interested in exploring intersections between music and technology to look at our B.M. in Music Business and Production, our M.M. In Music Management and Production, or our Certificate in Music Business.
The Music Technology program at FIU closely collaborates with the Composition Program. These collaborations include producing the New Music Miami ISCM Festival that features distinguished guests from through the U.S.A. and world in at least nine concerts as well as many lectures and master classes.
B.M. in Music Technology
The B.M. in Music Technology track is designed for candidates who have a background in music (instrumental or vocal), and who are also interested in computers, mathematics, or physics. Performance on a traditional instrument or voice is required. Also, a basic working knowledge of music software such as Finale, Sibelius, Logic, Ableton, and Pro Tools is highly desired. Most Music Technology majors will begin with Electronic Music I (MUC 2301) and continue through the sequence of music technology courses as well as physics and computer science courses.

M.M. in Music Technology
The M.M. with a concentration in Music Technology requires 36 hours past the Bachelor’s degree for completion of the degree. Graduate students in the program have a required summer semester serving as an intern at a national or international music technology company. The culmination of a student’s work at FIU is the thesis project, which is a major technological undertaking. This thesis may take the form of creating new music software, music hardware, an audio installation, or interactive digital media. Most graduate Music Technology majors will begin with Electronic Music III and continue through the sequence of music technology courses, although the exceptional student may enter in Computer Music Seminar I.

Certificate in Music Technology
The certificate in Music Technology affords non-music as well as music majors the opportunity to acquire the fundamental music technology skills expected of the current trends and standards within the electronic music industry. This certificate seeks to create proficient, knowledgeable applicants in the field of music technology. There is no audition required for this certificate.
