Remote Academic Advising

To help ensure that we continue to safeguard the health and well-being of our FIU community, we have transitioned all academic advising from face-to-face to virtual sessions using Zoom technology and email.

Undergraduate Students: To make an appointment with Gerry Suarez, please make an appointment online via PSN (Panther Success Network)

Graduate Students: To make an appointment with Professor Joel Galand, please send him an email at

All classes have transitioned to remote learning and include Summer A and C. This date may change, so the university will continue to communicate with you about this. Please monitor your FIU email and the FIU Homepage for important updates.

Helpful information about transitioning to fully online classes can be found here: Getting Started with Canvas

Tutoring and Support Services

The School of Music has an advising team that is here to help students with all of our programs. Our advising team will:

  • Help you plan effectively
  • Work with you to identify goals and develop educational plans to reach them
  • Assist you with academic issues and help you find solutions
  • Help you understand degree requirements
  • Work with you to select and schedule your courses

Prior to each registration period, incoming and continuing music majors are placed on an advising hold until they have met with their academic advisor, who will work with students to plan their schedule for the upcoming semester, process any necessary course permissions, and refer students to the appropriate faculty member if more specialized advisement or course placement is needed.
