Caleb Melchior, PLA, is a licensed landscape architect, planting designer, communicator, and educator. As Project Manager with Coastal Vista Design in Florida, he leads garden and public‑space projects, many on Sanibel and Captiva Islands, while specializing in materiality, design communication, and plant‑centric landscapes. At Florida International University, he teaches courses in design communication, planting design, professional practice, and theory of landscape architecture, and since 2020 he has served on the American Horticultural Society's Book Awards committee. His writing regularly appears in Land8, Horticulture, and The American Gardener, and his work emphasizes the legibility and ecology of plant communities in coastal and subtropical contexts. After relocating in March 2023 to Eugene, Oregon, he has embraced a new regional ecotype and continues to explore creative practice through his blog and newsletter.
