Partner With M-DCPS To Relocate CARTA | Mana Wynwood To Create The FIU Center For Innovation, Arts and Technology

Cost: Budget Neutral

In preparation for our current, no-cost lease of 5,000sf with Mr. Moishe Mana, expiring in May 2025, I propose we partner with the Miami Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) to relocate our programming and professional staff in Wynwood to the M-DCPS’ Center for International Education (CIE, 13,00sf) in Homestead, establishing the FIU | Center For Innovation, Arts, and Technology (as visualized below).

The initial funds required to build out and to furnish the proposed Center will be provided by M-DCPS.

Mission

The Center’s mission will be to advance research, creative activities, innovation, technology, and student success by bringing together the members of the community, faculty, and students across disciplines; providing dedicated space, support, and expertise; and building mutually beneficial partnerships beyond campus that expand FIU’s impact.

Goals in Support of FIU Experience Impact 2030

  • Lead in arts and culture;
  • Support the university’s commitment to build a preeminent FIU Experience;
  • Enhance our existing skill-based curriculum, experiential learning opportunities, and our students’ success as measured by the Florida Board of Governors’ key performance indicators;
  • Expand graduate enrollment in our MFA Visual Arts program by creating additional studio space;
  • Expand our digital arts and graphic arts faculty members’ research and creative activities, creating additional studio space;
  • Provide the region with impactful, thought-provoking exhibitions, performances, lectures, and master classes, as well as access to cutting-edge technologies;
  • Support connections to local arts, culture, and healthcare institutions, particularly Fab Lab Miami and Homestead Hospital – Baptist Health;
