Moonlighter FabLab is launching a new program for adults with limited/no STEM experience. We would really like to open this opportunity to the FIU community of students, faculty and alumni. Note that applicants with Architecture and Engineering backgrounds may not be eligible, but art and communications are encouraged to apply.

Here’s the information for the Maker Cities program:
Maker Cities is an NSF-funded initiative led by Moonlighter FabLab to expand access to opportunities in advanced manufacturing and emerging technologies.
Moonlighter invites you to apply to be one of 20 selected participants to join a 6-month studio-based course that explores:
- Advanced Manufacturing
- Design Thinking
- Entrepreneurship
- Civic Placemaking
Participants receive $5,000 stipends to cover wraparound needs (transportation, housing, childcare, lost wages, etc.) in order to fully participate in the program. Additionally each participant receives materials & supplies, mentorship and professional support, a year-long FabLab residency, and five years of discounted membership to continue growing their skills and ventures.
Application Deadline: December 18th, 2025.
Program Dates: Jan. 20th, 2026 – June 11th, 2026
