SOA in the Park2022-08-22T14:52:08-04:00

SOA in the Park or SOA(P) is an initiative that will transform the lawns and courtyards of the Paul L. Cejas Architecture building into event spaces that use the building surfaces for projection. The rotating schedule will feature design-related content (movies, workshops, lectures and tutorials) and will be open to the public.

As we transition into more face-to-face learning, SOA(P) will create rotating programming that will allow School of Architecture faculty and students to meet safely and share their FIU experience outdoors. We are hopeful that it will become a tradition that helps build our studio culture, while celebrating the unique advantages of South Florida’s spring climate. It will transform our learning environment for the better, despite the challenges of social distancing. We can’t wait to get started!

We invite faculty and students to propose workshops, lectures, tutorials, and other content throughout the Fall semester so we can showcase our SOA research, creative work, and talents in the evenings of the Spring semester.

Unless otherwise noted, events will begin at 6:30pm during the Spring semester (January 6 to April 9 on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday) (After March 12th, start time will be 7:30pm to compensate for daylight savings).

Here are some helpful tips if you are planning to come:

  • Bring your own yoga mat, beach blanket and cushions and set up in pre-labeled, socially-distanced spots
  • First come, First Served: make sure to arrive on time to claim your spot
  • It’s fine to bring drinks and something to eat: just be sure to pick up after yourself
  • Have fun and enjoy this new way of learning and sharing our SOA facilities!
