Mentor Collective
In our continued efforts to support student success, FIU has partnered with Mentor Collective to promote student mentorship through the Panther2Panther Mentor Collective Program. The program, a partnership between the Division of Academic and Career Success and <college specific>, pairs first-year and second-year students with trained upper-level student mentors who will guide them through the college experience.
Once paired, both mentors and mentees have access to a shared online site they can use to find resources and set goals. Mentors and mentees meet regularly before and during the school year, forming a supportive relationship grounded in growth and shared experiences.
How it Works
Students will be matched with a mentor based on common interests, background, academics, and professional aspirations. To get started, students and mentors register and complete an online survey to paint a holistic picture of their interests and experiences.
What do Mentors and Mentees Discuss?
- How will my major impact my professional options?
- How do I balance the demands of school, responsibilities, and socializing?
- How can I set myself up for academic, social, and career success?
- How do I make connections with peers and professional contacts?
Become a Mentor
- Mentors with a minimum of a 2.4 GPA and in good disciplinary standing, will complete a survey about themselves and their backgrounds.
- Mentor Collective matches first-year and second-year students (mentees) and mentors based on similar interests and backgrounds, or what’s important to them.
- We expect mentees to begin signing up in January 2022. Once you are matched with a mentee(s), you both decide how and how often you want to connect, which can happen via email, phone, video chat, text, or in-person.
We strongly encourage you to consider becoming a Panther2Panther mentor and make a difference in the success of an incoming FIU student, while gaining from your experience. This is an excellent opportunity to help our incoming first-year and second-year students build affinity to FIU, a sense of belonging, and feeling of community, while offering you the chance as a mentor to give back.
Mentor Collective will email you more information—please review it, and do not hesitate to contact Panther2Panther Mentor Collective at P2Pmentor@fiu.edu if you have questions. For more information about FIU’s Panther2Panther Mentor Collective program, visit p2pmentorcollective.fiu.edu.
