In our work, “neighbors helping neighbors” is more than just a catchphrase. It’s also the fuel that keeps our engine running. This is not just a metaphor! The fuel of our volunteer drivers actually powers our Saturday distributions. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to achieve last mile delivery to hyper-local community-driven sites or be competitive from a cost perspective in comparison to mega food rescue operations like City Harvest and Food Bank of NYC.
As our volunteer outreach and logistics intern, you will be responsible for recruiting new volunteering groups, creating an amazing volunteering experience for our groups, and conducting appropriate follow-up with current volunteering groups.
More specifically, the Spring Volunteer Logistics & Outreach Intern will
- Conduct regular outreach through various channels (social media, email, snail mail, text messages, etcl) to recruit new prospects for Saturday volunteer opportunities, (Examples include but are not limited to corporate groups, parent-teacher associations, boy/girl scout troops, student clubs & associations, school groups, gyms (such as Better Body Bootcamp or Blink) and religious congregations.)
- Rigorously track the status of your volunteer outreach using Hubspot Sales & Marketing CRM
- Whenever possible, attend our Saturday morning volunteering events at our Bronx warehouse to greet volunteers / volunteering groups. (**Events happen most Saturdays from 9am to 2pm at 1957 Turnbull Avenue in the Bronx. Attendance is strongly preferred but not mandatory and interns who are not able to attend on Saturday are still welcome and encouraged to apply.)
- Brainstorm and improve upon the processes / logistics of our Saturday volunteering event with a focus on increased organization and efficiency
- Liaison with our tech volunteers to propose and track progress of the implementation of new tecchc. features to make our volunteering experience more seamless (e.g. better online signup, easier social media sharing, better automated follow-up process)
- Whenever possible, follow up with our Saturday volunteers to propose more opportunities and ensure continued engagement.
- Perform regular quantitative and qualitative analysis on the success of our volunteer outreach efforts
- Meet regularly with executive leadership to reflect on and improve our volunteer outreach and logistics approaches
- Collaborate with staff, interns, and pro-bono volunteers (graphic designers, videographers, etc.) to propose ideas for volunteer recruitment, track progress of those ideas, and to ensure that messaging to our volunteers is consistent and appropriate
