Job Description
Trains to actively and aggressively pursue subrogation, loss refunds, and any other collections. Most assignments are routine subrogation files, primarily pursuing first-party collision reimbursement. This consists of collecting from named insureds, at-fault third parties, other insurance carriers, and any other debtor, in a timely and cost-effective manner. Trains to handle more complex files.
SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES:
- Trains to review and evaluate assigned claim files for subrogation or collection potential.
- Learns investigation routines for handling assignments.
- Maintains an active diary, works each assigned file on a regular basis. Evaluate each file to
- determine collection/subrogation potential. Recommends action plan for each file. Closes cases
- when appropriate with supervisor approval.
- Negotiates settlements with adverse parties and attorneys on a fair and equitable basis with all parties
- involved.
- Monitors claim to ensure subrogation funds were received as agreed upon and/or properly
- processed and recorded in the claims system. Prepares payments for attorney fees, investigative
- expenses, skip traces, asset checks, and reimbursement of deductibles for Manager’s review and
- approval. Processes payments in an accurate and timely manner.
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND/OR SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Four (4) year college degree preferred. Minimum of two (2) years prior experience in collections, risk
- management, financial field, customer service, or sales required.
- Must have good computer skills and the ability to enter notes and produce letters and reports in a professional
- manner.
- Above-average organizational and negotiation skills. Must be persistent, aggressive, and determined in
- collection efforts and have the ability to meet monthly collection goals.
- Must have good written and verbal communication and math skills. Some positions may require specific
- bilingual skills.
- Must have the ability to deal with conflict in a professional manner.
- Must successfully complete Basic Claims Class in order to remain in position.
- Must have a satisfactory credit record.
SPECIAL DEMANDS OR WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Contacts will often be confrontational and challenging. Must have the ability to deal with irate or
- difficult individuals in an effective, tactful, professional manner in order to persuade people to repay the
- company.
- Must work effectively amid constant interruptions and shifting priorities.
- Long periods of telephone contact daily.
- Must be willing/have the ability to work varying schedules including weekends and evenings (up to 8:00
- PM) based on company need. The schedule may change as the company needs to change.
