MU’s College of Arts and Science is dedicated to helping students discover their future. As an Advancement Officer, you will work alongside our fundraising team to support the vital work of the college’s students, faculty, and researchers as they rise to the challenges of tomorrow.
Working under the supervision and guidance of the Executive Director of Advancement, this Advancement Officer will:
- Raise funds on behalf of the students, staff, researchers and programs of the College of Arts and Science
- Build authentic relationships with key supporters and donors to the College of Arts and Science, while cultivating a base of new and potential friends, alumni and corporate partners
- Demonstrate the continued impact of donors’ generosity to supporters and friends of the College
- Create personalized, innovative ways of matching donor interests with areas of support
To thrive in this role, the ideal candidate must have:
- A strong sense of emotional intelligence and exemplary interpersonal skills
- A commitment to discovery, excellence, and the values of the University of Missouri
- A passion for the programs within the College of Arts and Science; humanities, social and natural sciences, and the fine and performing arts
- An innate understanding of the stages of the donor life cycle (cultivation/solicitation/closing/stewardship)
Success in this role will be measured through proposals delivered and closed, personal contacts and visits, and dollars raised.
Yearly Goals & Metrics
- $500,000 Dollars Raised
- 12-18 Major Gift Proposals Presented ($50K and above)
- 7-15 Major Gifts Closed ($50K and above)
- 125-200 Substantive Written Communications (Email, Letter, or Text)
- 125 – 150 Substantive Visits (Phone, Virtual, or In-Person)
- 20-50 Evaluation Visits

Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
Our team knows that fundraising is a special niche, which is why we are open to transferable skills! If you have experience that translates to fundraising, tell us about it in your cover letter. These skills include, but are not limited to, sales, finance, consulting, non-profit work, higher education experience, etc. We are excited to learn more about you and your experiences.
- A bachelor’s degree
- At least two years of fundraising and/or alumni and volunteer relations management experience, preferably in a development office setting
- A valid driver’s license and wireless service are required to carry out the responsibilities associated with the position
