Additional Information: The City of Leawood offers career development opportunities in which the employee could increase their experience, training, and pay. The position is eligible to receive merit based pay increases every year (merit increase up to 3.9% increase). Employees also receive a Time In Service Bonus every three years of employment on their anniversary date equal to 5% of their annual salary.  

Summary of the Position: The Parks, Recreation & Arts Marketing, Events & Administrative Supervisor oversees the Parks, Recreation & Arts department marketing initiatives, special events, and financial transactions for the Parks, Recreation & Arts department. 

 

General Overview of Responsibilities: 

  • Oversees the development and distribution of marketing and promotional materials for the City’s recreation facilities, programs, cultural arts, sports and events.
  • Manages the Department’s external and internal communications including department’s section of the City’s website, event calendars and social media platforms regarding Parks, Recreation & Arts services and programs. 
  • Collaborates with Program Supervisors on the development and distribution of marketing materials and methods for upcoming events and programs. 
  • Collaborates with the Recreation staff for media buy for Recreation sponsored programs and events. 
  • Oversees the development and printing of the biannual Parks, Recreation & Arts Program Guide and Department newsletter. 
  • Responsible for preparing, monitoring and evaluating the operating budgets for Marketing and Special Events. 
  • Coordinates the Recreation, Parks & Arts Department’s Annual Main Community Events. 
  • Responsible for arranging all entertainment and vendors, overseeing volunteers, administering contracts and agreements, promoting and marketing the events and obtaining in-kind sponsorships and donations. 
  • Responsible for working with the City’s Legal department on developing, administering and maintaining contracts and agreements with volunteers, vendors and contractors. 
  • Participates in the Department’s Accreditation and Strategic Master Plan committee. 
  • Assists the Parks, Recreation & Arts Director in responding to Open Records Act requests accordingly, ensuring requested information is dispensed in compliance with internal policy and procedures. 
  • Assists with contract and project management for various Parks, Recreation & Arts projects. Documents project information at bid openings as necessary. 
  • Responsible for maintaining department files on City Council and Committee related approved agenda items, resolutions and projects.  
  • Responsible for the hiring, training, supervising and evaluation of Graphic Technician. 
  • Conducts employee performance appraisals, provides development opportunities and performance improvement needs, and handles disciplinary actions.
  • Oversees the management of the departmental invoices, purchase requisitions for approval signatures, and maintenance of records. 

 

Minimum Requirements: Must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Administration, Business, Communications or related field. Must have a minimum of six (6) years of experience in marketing, public relations, event coordination or equivalent experience in a Parks and Recreation related field. Must have a minimum of two (2) years of supervisory or lead experience. Supervisory or lead experience includes assisting in the completion performance appraisals, directing or employee’s daily work assignments. Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record per the City’s drivers Use of Vehicles for City Business policy throughout employment with the City.
