Student Volunteer Program Internship – Summer 2023 (deadline to apply: Friday, May 26, 2023)

Student Volunteer Description/Overview: Students responding to this posting will be assigned to the Office of the Deputy Commissioner for Operations Support (DCOS) and will perform work within the Communications & Liaison (C&L) Social Media Branch (SMB). Up to 6 positions are available for the fall term. Students with some or all requested skills are encouraged to apply.

Job duties specific to this assignment include, but are not limited to:

o  ASL social media content creation

o  Social media communications: Tactical planning, scheduling, review

o  Social media monitoring: identifying trends and potential connections

o  Social media analytics

Additional details and organizational charts are included for additional reference. Exact assignments will depend on the student’s area of study and any particular skills or interests.

·      Outcomes for Student: The student will be able to explore career options, enhance their knowledge about the inner-workings of a large federal agency, and develop their business analysis, strategic planning, event management, stakeholder engagement, administrative, and/or communication/networking skills.

·      Desired Qualifications and Skills: Successful candidates will be self-motivated, detail-oriented, have strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and on cross-functional teams.

Skills: Fluent in ASL. Good grasp of basic communication principles. Solid understanding of social media practices. Writing and computer skills. General understanding of government and current events. Some video content creation experience preferred.

·      Desired Areas of Study: Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Government, Political Science, Art and Design, Community Development, Liberal Arts, Accessibility Studies, and Deaf and Sign Language Studies. Students from other academic disciplines are still encouraged to apply.

·      Hours and Location: This is an unpaid, part-time opportunity (approx. 16 – 32 hours per week) based out of IRS National Headquarters: 1111 Constitution Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20224. IRS Social Media employee work fully remotely through the FOW program.

Schedules (workdays and hours) are flexible and can be negotiated. Ideal candidates can commit to at least 16+ hours per week with core hours 10:30am – 3:30pm ET.
