Chair’s Message

On behalf of our students, faculty, and staff, I welcome you to FIU Theatre. At FIU Theatre you will find a diverse and vibrant community of artists who take ownership of their education and their art, settling for nothing less than excellence.

FIU Theatre continues to develop programming, curriculum, and student internship opportunities, as well as interdisciplinary and production activities. College Factual recently ranked us as the 40th best theatre program out of over 300 programs in the nation. Our students continue to excel at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival and the United States Institute for Theatre Technology, winning regional and national awards as they compete with undergraduate and graduate students from around the country.

Recently, FIU Theatre students and faculty were invited as one of only four schools to participate in the USITT Disney Parks Live Entertainment Pathways Program. The invitation was propelled by FIU Theatre’s highly successful Design/Technical program. The project was an immersive experience highlighting the career paths and opportunities in theme park entertainment.

Our partnership with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines continues giving our students truly unique opportunities. RCL’s exceptional team of artists give our students masterclasses in performance and design and our students go behind the scenes on ship tours.

Further, we continue to bring in guest artists from New York, Los Angeles, and Miami. Guests are casting directors, actors, directors, playwrights, designers, voice and movement specialists, and entrepreneurs.

Our alumni continue to excel in the professional world. Take AMPARO, the groundbreaking immersive theatre experience which played to sold out audiences for eight straight months in Miami and is now slated for a move to New York City. The show was directed by an alumna and featured performances by 12 FIU Theatre alumni. It was featured in American Theatre Magazine and other national news outlets.

Our retention rates, graduation rates, students who graduate without excess credits, internship participation, employment or graduate school participation, and rankings have all steadily improved. Our overall enrollments continue to climb, as well as our theatre audience numbers, and our theatre students continue excellent design, technical, and performance work for FIU Theatre productions.

If you have any questions about our curriculum, productions, outreach activities, summer camps, the GreenHouse New Play Development Program, or anything else at FIU Theatre please contact us. We look forward to seeing you on campus!
