Gubae Beyene

Assistant Teaching Professor
Gubae Gundarta Beyene, Ph.D., is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the School of Communication. Prior to joining the CARTA faculty, he amassed over 15 years of experience in the media and communications industry. His experience straddles both academia and various professional contexts, including public relations and public diplomacy. Earlier in his career, he started out as a Public Relations Officer at Ethiopia’s sole telecom service provider, Ethio telecom, but his passion for teaching brought him back to his alma mater, Addis Ababa University, where he taught in the School of Journalism and Communication for over five years. This was preceded by his brief stint as communications officer on the university’s communications team within the Office of the President. In the domain of public diplomacy, Beyene worked as Information Assistant within the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. An Ethiopia native, Beyene holds a Master’s in Journalism and Communication from Addis Ababa University, and a doctorate in Communication and Media Studies from the University of Oregon.
