Dean McMurry

Dean Murry, a Doctor of Design candidate at Florida International University (FIU) is a licensed architect and principal at McMurry & Arguello, an architecture and landscape practice in Miami. He started his career in the steel industry as a welder and fabricator. Later, he pursued a bachelor's degree in architecture from the University of Memphis, followed by a master's degree in architecture from FIU. He was awarded the “Master’s Project of Excellence”, which was featured in Evolo's publication 'Temporal Architecture.'

Throughout his career, Dean has developed many architectural design projects, several earning honors from AIA design awards, including the Exotic Concrete House. His portfolio spans diverse scales and typologies, ranging from small-scale pavilions to single and multi-family residential endeavors, extending to large historic hospitality renovations.

Dean has a strong background in digital fabrication and 3D printing. His projects in these areas have been showcased in distinguished locations including Detroit, New York City, and the Miami Design District. His research interest is in the development of 3D printed concrete, as well as the synthesis of plant material with the built environment; creating spaces that are more conscience of native vegetation and its flourishment. Dean has also several years of experience in teaching design studios as an adjunct faculty at FIU.
