Intelligent Immersive Environments for Learning Robotics Operations

Personalized learning has the promise to transform education. It provides the opportunity for tailoring learning content and sequence for differences in ability, experience, and sociocultural backgrounds. Intelligent Learning Platform for Robotics Operations (IL-PRO) is focused on leveraging advanced technologies to develop and test an immersive learning platform for delivering an industrial robotics curriculum. This research will integrate advancements in Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing (NLP) with Virtual Reality (VR) to develop a personalized learning environment for the robotics curriculum.

Our goal is to become a model for preparing students from heterogeneous backgrounds and disciplines for advanced future jobs in nationally critical industries including Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) and Manufacturing. Emerging research on personalized environments shows the potential of advanced technologies for meeting national demand for a strong and diverse generation of engineers, architects, and industrial designers. We plan to achieve this goal with five educational and scientific innovations in 1) AI-assisted Adaptive Intelligent Learning System (AILS), 2) AI-assisted coaching, 3) Novel curriculum content and delivery in VR, 4) Game-based learning User Experience and User Interface, and 5) AI-enabled learning analytics.
