For those in the fashion world Ted Baker is known for a paradox where the clothes are sophisticated and suave, but the advertising and visual displays to attract to the brand are ridiculously clever, quirky, and slightly outrageous. For example, during Christmas of 2014 they had Santa dressed in a “Marilyn Monroe” version of the Santa suit with Santa’s skirt getting blow upwards and he was kookily holding it down. The brand also never fails to play on words and have a clever pun in the copy of any given campaign. As in 2014 their social media had “Santa’s taking an elfie” copy to give a clever play on words on the very current “selfie” trend. Ted never fails to come up with a pun-filled, canny and relevant campaign of a season or holiday.

Keeping all of this in mind, the campaign at hand focuses on the lovely Valentine’s Day, called #SweetesTed. It focuses on Ted Baker Audio, a line of music and audio equipment sold exclusively by Ted, perhaps to appear more unisex to attract buyers both male, and female, equally. The idea of having a storefront design of rolled clothing forming the shapes of music equipment is clever and very Ted. Having the items dipped in dripping chocolate is also very relevant to Ted’s approach of attention grabbing. The brand’s most interesting eye grabbers are always their storefront displays and this could definitely stop a few passersby. Imagine a giant chocolate fountain leaking all over the floor and more chocolate dripping for music audio gadgets that are actually formed with rolled clothing? In my opinion… definitely a pedestrian stopper.

The website homepage carries over this visual but takes it to a further level and transforms it into a user experience. The visual of the storefront on the homepage, once a person rolls over a specific part, reveals the item of clothing that portion of the audio equipment consists of. It reveals the item and the price, making it easy to make a purchase, or simply to play around with the interesting take on representing audio equipment with clothes, and magnified approximately 5000 times!

Would definitely go into the store and play around on the Ted Baker website to experience the limited edition Valentine’s Day campaign.
