How Does the GSC Creative Program Taught by FIU and Miami Ad School Work?

Florida International University (FIU) is quite pleased with our Global Strategic Communications-Creative (GSCC) Master’s degree program simply because it’s unlike any other in the South Florida area, or dare we say even the country? This special master’s program combines an accredited curriculum that’s geared toward teaching students how to strategically address global, national, and local audiences whether it’s verbally, or online through various communication platforms.

Submitting to the Force of the Internet

Because the presence of the Internet and social media is so strong, brands have to acknowledge that the Internet is a must in their marketing plans if they want to reach consumers. Almost every person, even in the most remote places in the world, have access to the worldwide web through a mobile device and potentially logged 24 hours a day.

Looking at the Numbers

According to Pew Research Center, 95% of adults in the United States own a mobile device. What this means to marketers is the many millions of consumers looking online for products, entertainment and information.

Florida International University Keeping Up with Progress

That’s why FIU created a unique master’s program that combines the conceptual strategies and theories behind marketing while allowing students to exercise those same principles at the Miami Ad School building a portfolio by working with leading professionals in the industry of marketing and advertising.

At the Miami Ad School, students will commit to 6 courses in Wynwood, and then 7 courses at FIU’s Biscayne Bay campus. Students will need to submit two separate applications: one to FIU and the other to Miami Ad School.

How the Curriculum Works

This is a 39-semester credit, lock-step program that is completed in five consecutive academic semesters, including one or two summers, leading to a Master of Science degree in Mass Communication with a specialty in creativity in Copywriting or Art Direction. So students enrolled in FIU’s GSCC Master’s program will get the best of both worlds—understanding the concepts and strategies of marketing while being able to readily test them while creating an impressive portfolio guided by the Miami Ad School advisors.
