Forming The Dual Mind Of A Creative Strategist

Creative and Advertising Strategists typically work at advertising agencies or marketing firms or within in-house teams at corporations. Strategists balance the business and creative sides of advertising, wearing two hats, understanding the business side of the brand and being the link with the creative teams. Strategy work planning for campaigns engages both sides of the brain, the analytical side as well as the creative side.

While it is a competitive field, all businesses, from small stores to large corporations, depend on advertising to get their products or services in front of consumers. Putting together an ad campaign requires teamwork, from strategists who understand the brand and manage the necessary research to discover the insight that will resonate with the consumer, to the creatives who develop the tactical executions that deliver results for the client.

From Unknown Status to Elite in Advertising

A master’s degree in advertising, communications, marketing or a related field such as FIU-MAS GSC – Creative Track will provide a foundation in the creative, management, interpersonal and analytical skills required to work in the field as an advertising strategist or account planner. Coursework in marketing, consumer behavior, and research combined with creative skills courses will prepare you to pursue a job as an advertising strategist.

Participating in an advertising internship allows students to gain practical advertising experience. We offer our students the opportunity to form professional relationships in the advertising community. With so much competition for advertising careers in general, our program also provides an invaluable resource to graduating students – a ready-to-go portfolio from an award-winning Ad School which can prove invaluable when seeking a full-time job after graduation.

The skills you learn in the GSC Creative Strategy sub-track will allow you to pursue job titles such as brand strategist, account planner, brand planner or strategic planner. You will learn the necessary skills to use primary and secondary research to craft what is called a creative brief, which lays out the creative strategy for the creative team to do great work.

Course work takes place at FIU Biscayne Bay Campus or BBC and Miami Ad School. Miami Ad School was named the Future Lions School of the Year at the 2019 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. The program is called Global Strategic Communications Creative Track and there are four sub-tracks to choose from: Art Direction, Copywriting, Strategy (Fall only) and Social Media Strategy (Spring only) leading to a Master of Science in Mass Communication degree and a portfolio of your best work.
