Left Brain Vs Right Brain

Left Brain Vs Right Brain

6 The brain is the organ responsible for our intellectual capacity. It’s where we process information, but the left and right hemispheres of our brain deal with information in a very distinct way. This concept was developed in the late 1960s by the American psych biologist Roger W Sperry. The study reveals that the right side focuses on the visual, and processes information in an intuitive and simultaneous way, looking first at the whole picture then the details. However, the left-brain side focus is verbal, processing information in a sequential and analytical way, looking first at the pieces then putting them together to get the whole. In our routine both sides join forces to interpret the situations and overcome problems, but we tend to use one side more than the other. There’s why we title people as right-brained and left brained. The difference is that right-brained people tend to solve problems in a more creative way, they tend to escape the obvious or pre-formulated answers while left-brained tend to think that problems have only one right answer or solution, they follow rules and formulas. The objective of this post is not to affirm that one is better than the other, just as being right-handed is not “superior” to being left-handed. What is important is to be aware that there are different ways of thinking, and by knowing what your natural preference is; you can try to improve your thinking and empower either your creativity or your rational brain process improving your problem-solving skills. An example of what you can do to work on your right brain side is learning how to draw using it. A couple of techniques are taught online. Let’s try this one: Select a picture you want to draw. Turn it upside down and start to reproduce it on your paper. Pay attention to the sizes of the lines. Force your brain to think about the picture as lines, not real objects. If you think you’re drawing a nose your left-brain is working, don’t let it interfere. Just reproduce lines, short lines, long lines and geometric shapes. You should draw the eyes thinking of lines and circles. The same with painting, only think of dark and light, don’t think in terms of real objects or your left-brain will tell you that you’re not any good at drawing. Try this technique to start and search for other techniques online. You will experience a totally new way of thinking and exploring the world around you. Good luck!
